Welcome to Sweetfiremusic!

Sweetfire’s roots rest in the collaboration between Shannon Miller, vocals, and Laurel Thomsen, violin and viola. Since a mutual resonance with Celtic music brought Shannon and Laurel together in early 2005, they decided to make this genre the focus of their self-titled first album which they released in December 2006.

In early 2007, Jana Heller, guitar, and Andy Gilhooley, bodhran, doumbek, “laptop,” of Monterey band Grumbling Ginger joined Sweetfire. Together the two have helped to strengthen the rhythm and drive of the band, adding flavors of folk and rock. As an extra bonus, Jana has helped to increase Sweetfire’s repertoire with her original songwriting. Of Sweetfire’s performace at First Night Monterey on December 31st, 2007, one critic wrote “their original tunes are some truly creative folk rock, featuring the yearning soprano of Shannon Miller and guitar work by Jana Heller.”

Sweetfire calls the Monterey Peninsula along California’s Central Coast its home and Celtic, folk, and original music, passionately performed, is their signature.

Sweetfire's members acknowledge in each other, their respective musical gifts and abilities, wrought from the soulful heart. With Sweetfire, voice and strings combine to create a synergy of emotional depth, a musical expression of enthusiasm and a truly visceral experience.
